We treat concussion in the Bendigo area

From the initial consultation to a full recovery, our clinic is focused on the best results by using evidence-based practice and protocols.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Prior to booking your initial consultation, please ensure you have a referral stating that you have a diagnosis of a concussion. This is required and can be obtained through a doctor of your choosing.

After booking your initial consultation, you will receive a text message that will guide you to complete client information forms and a phone application download. Please ensure this is completed prior to arriving to your consultation. During your initial consultation, your concussion trained physiotherapist will gather important information about your concussion and complete a thorough assessment to identify the specific treatments you require. Cardiovascular, visual and vestibular exercises may be prescribed, depending on your assessment findings. You will also be introduced to specific protocols to allow you to start the return to school, work and/or sport process.

In your subsequent consultations, you will be guided through return to school, work and sport protocols whilst being treated for your specific symptoms via a targeted treatment approach. Those returning to sporting activities may complete aerobic tests on a treadmill or bike to ensure it is safe for them to return to activities involving a higher heart rate. Your concussion trained physiotherapist can perform a variety of treatments such as soft tissue and joint mobilisation, which plays a large role in reducing symptoms post-concussion, along with dry needling and a variety of exercise prescription including cardiovascular, balance, coordination, visual and vestibular if needed.

Your final consultation with Bendigo Concussion Clinic will involve an extensive testing session that may include a maximal exertion physical test (if returning to sport), neuro-cognitive testing, memory recall, reaction time, balance, and other aspects of physical and cognitive function. If available, these tests will be compared to your previous baseline screening results.

Please note, once you pass the final consultation with Bendigo Concussion Clinic, you will be required to obtain a signed clearance form from a medical practitioner (doctor) before returning to contact training and competition. You will be provided with the testing results and overview of your rehabilitation from Bendigo Concussion Clinic to take to your doctor.
